Hop into a new kitchen
Louis from SOLID Creations called on Margot to draw details for this renovation of a neat three bedroom, one bathroom home. It had the usual inefficient L shaped lounge/ dining with beautiful timber glazed doors to the covered outdoor room. The current owners had closed in the door and made a servery through to the dining room, creating a very tight U shape kitchen that had room for one person and one person only!
Off the other side of the kitchen the meals area was really a traffic space with nowhere for more than a dresser: certainly no space for a table. Lead light door to laundry, doors to bedrooms two and three, and matching timber glazed double doors to the covered outdoor area and the walk through to the kitchen, the raised servery benching ensured the space never could be used for sitting.
The plan the owners arrived at was brilliant. It involved incorporation the meals. Laundry and open outdoor space into one large room and closing off the lounge so as to ensure it was a square sitting room not a walk through. A new kitchen, pantry, Euro laundry and linen cupboard were called for. For this sized home the Euro laundry was sufficient and the linen storage space is ample.
The kitchen we created is the masterpiece. One long island bench with shaped top and decorative corbels. The stove with faux chimney breast hides the range hood, ample bench and space for fridge and freezers side by side. The best part of this area is that the 'chimney' does not come down far past the overhead cupboards: no where near to the benching so the benching is very useful right beside the stove top: very practical.
The pantry has miles of shelving and by reusing the internal lead light door the features the owners love are retained.
