NORTH FACING FOUR BEDROOMS
PLAN FOR NORTH FACING SITE
The only affordable site in the estate is north facing so how do you make the house passive solar? I do not think there should be north facing sites as it is easy to divide green fields with streets north/south and sites east/west. This makes a passive solar plan super easy with living rooms to the north, wet rooms, garage etc. to the south.
So north facing is what we have. Let us have one open living room to the north. Preferably have bedrooms to the east/morning side. Other living rooms and kitchen to the west where the afternoon sun will warm and light areas, where the family will congregate and socialise more often in the afternoon and evenings. Better than having the bedrooms over heating in the late afternoons. For preference the wet rooms: bathroom, ensuite and laundry could take up the rear of the plan on the south but the client specifically wanted the option to enter from garage to laundry and here we have a covered area for muddy boots and clothes line. The kids put down area is very handy and by the desk in view of the kitchen.
The ensuite and kitchen across from laundry and kid’s bathroom keeps all the plumbing together for great hot water distribution and for limiting the noise of running water all through the home.
Altogether a brilliant first family home with two living areas, manageable garden, four bedrooms, making it very suitable for a family of several children well into their teenage years.
