This compact and very neat plan was designed for a couple for a new 'tree change' retirement. Close enough to town and train for family to come to stay, far enough away to enjoy peace, quiet, birds, native animals and endless serenity on a few acres of bucolic beauty.
The siting will be determined by the slight slope across the plot but the placement of rooms is set now. It is a far cry from the jumble of rooms shown in the initial plan, that had no storage to speak of even in bedrooms.
The stipulation was for passive solar, three bedrooms, bathroom and powder room, alfresco off the kitchen and a generous laundry. The living area to the north and west answers the owners' lifestyle of afternoon drinks together in the sunny room after days of gardening for one and post career, long awaited novel writing for the other.
When family and friends come to stay, as they do often, the home is generous enough for kids games, big hearted diners, splendid music at volume just as they like it. (But neighbours are far enough away as to not be disturbed) What a joy!
