I wonder how often the 'luxurious deluxe' spa baths of the 80's were used? The surprise would be if it was more than a handful of times and then purely for the novelty. Preferable is an outside unit under a pergola, with room for one or several friends with steam enjoyed by the surrounding ferns and garden. Internal spa baths tended to strain the exhaust fan systems leading to mouldy, ugly plaster staining and the associated health hazards.
A home suitable for a family needs to offer a bath but spas and their steam belong outside. Surprisingly it is amazing to hop out of the spa on a freezing night and feel warm and very relaxed through and through.
